Parachute adventures

Decorating our parachutes!

We set about this morning to make parachutes….this was not a planned activity…but after reading Franklin in the Dark this morning, Cormac told me he wanted to take the entire family parachuting…including his Uncle’s dog!  So parachutes were in order.  What I thought would be a great way to take about planes, gravity and like fell soooo flat….I had really thought this would be an interesting hands on demo of how gravity worked, but Cormac had other ideas.  Spider man and the Pirate had an in depth conversation about being scared, courage and friendship!  I put a cork in all the gravity talk and was so happy to let his play go where it needed.  Mama learns to let go of the controls…..lesson learned!

Gratitude on Mondays

October 11, 2010 at 8:29 am (gratitude) (, , , )

So about 8 years ago my best friend and I had a major falling out.  It was horrible.  Many times over the years I wondered what she was doing.  Eight years later, it is even hard to remember exactly what our fight was about.  A few weeks ago we met again, both very nervous, at a gathering with friends from Jr. High.  We hugged and got teary and spent the night getting to know each other again.  We both decided to forget about the past, chalk it up to being young, and move on!

Saturday we got our families together, they had a great time!  They are around the same age.  It is amazing how our lives have run very parallel.  We all had so much fun, with new stories to tell, and adventures to share.  I forgot how much fun my friend is!  It was so wonderful to reconnect.  Like putting on your favorite sweatshirt on a crisp fall day!  So this week I am so very grateful for my new/old friend!!!!

Gratitude on Mondays

October 4, 2010 at 8:29 am (gratitude)

We are moving!  A few months ago hubby and I looked around and said, “its time!”  We have loved living in our house.  It is big and old with plenty of room, a second kitchen for my studio.  But after little man came into our lives, we have found that we want to spend our time in very different ways.  Long gone are the rocking house parties.  The lounge with a bar, has been replaced by a proper family room.  I don’t want to clean, and my husband doesn’t want to do hours of yard work…so we are downsizing! Yes a term usually associated with empty nesters.  We just want to spend less time on the nest.

So this morning I am grateful that we have made this decision and have finally realized that bigger is not always better.

I am grateful that we have found a home that we love, and hopeful that we can sell ours.

I am grateful for our agent, who is truly wonderful!

Who wouldn’t want to spend more time playing with this little guy!

I invite you to play along!  It really does feel great to start your week on a positive note.

Where have you been?

August 22, 2010 at 6:10 pm (Family) (, , , , , , , )

On vacation in Maine (the Homeland)

We took the niblet camping for the first time, and he loved it!  Hubby and I were just talking about how much he really grew up over the last week.  He started walking at the camp site and has not stopped since!  Yea!!!!!  He went exploring in the woods, played in the dirt, and “drove” his great uncle’s boat.  I think that nature and adventuring really agrees with him.

We actually camped on Campobello Island in Canada.  The sites were beautiful and so well maintained.  We were in the woods, but could hear the ocean at night, just magical.  We visited the Roosevelt House, something I have not done since I was a child.  I had read a biography on Eleanor Roosevelt and it was so interesting to have a glimpse into her life.  The gardens were so amazing.  These dahlia’s were as big as dinner plates.

Lubec just feels like home to me.  I can’t explain it, I was not born there, my father was, but we have always visited.  Now that my grandparents has passed, my Aunt and Uncle live in the same house.  It just feels right to sit on the porch and read a book or crochet.  I love driving down to the marina and just sitting.  Hubby looked around while we were doing this one afternoon there were so many of us gazing out into the bay.  Drive down, roll down the window and just sit and listen.

Gulls, boats, and fog horn.

My parents stopped on the way back and bought a ton of wild blueberries, which this afternoon, I baked into yummy muffins.

Just trying to bring back a bit of the homeland.

Gratitude on Mondays

My first hank of yarn

On Monday mornings, I like to write about a few things that I am really thankful.  I try to keep these in mind during the week.

-Yesterday I learned how to spin yarn on a drop spindle.  I am so thankful so a supportive family that did not mind Mama being gone all day on a Sunday.

-The ocean.  I am counting down the days until we leave for Maine to go camping.  I am longing to hear the fog horn, feel the worn rocks under my feet, and smell the salty brine of low tide.

-My awesome neighbor, who not only reads my blog, but gifts clothing from her little one to mine. Many, many thanks!

Post a few things that you are thankful for and start your week with a smile!
